Selected for its humanization of anthropomorphic elements, its international value of the genre in street photography (i.e. Magnum, Street Photography International), artistic interpretation...
-Jury Calle X
In September 2017, I participated in a street photography / documentary workshop taught by the director of FOCUS Experimental Architecture Workshop, Mauro Quirós. Urban architect and official photographer of Canon in Costa Rica.
A workshop in which I was awarded the prize for best photography, and certified by Canon Costa Rica.
During the final editorial session, which lasted about six hours, each participant had a three-minute presentation to support their projects. The jury was formed by a diverse group of professionals in multiple fields, who, together, worked to select the best pieces in different categories.

Calle X is a street photography workshop, in the city of San José, whose objective is to delve into the streets and hidden spaces of the city. Portraying in its historical reality, the change that the city lives in the present. It is a three-session workshop, three consecutive Saturdays, at the President Hotel on Central Avenue in downtown San José, and a field work session on the street, with specific projects for each participant. The idea is to develop an exhibition of criteria and methodologies from the great exponents of this genre at a national level and internationally. And from this, generate new forms and hypothesis of exposure and composition in photography.
Jury studying and nominating the best work from each participant.
This was a certified workshop, part of a project that has been in development for five years, called: CRITICAL IMAGE. There are two awards, best photographic piece and best project proposal, with an honorable mention for the next three best projects. Awards and Canon branded prizes were given for outstanding work.
My winning work was selected for several reasons and criteria:
- Humanization of anthropomorphic elements.
-Its international value of the genre in street photography (for example, Magnum, Street Photography International).
- Artistic interpretation.
- Pleasing to the eye.
- Shocking, generating a change of emotions.
- Good tone management.
- Great technical balance.
- Great use of the photographic machine.
The selection of my work came after a session of constructive criticism. With the aim of putting myself on the right path towards developing as a photographer, which I have taken seriously to raise my standards.
